I just want to repost my previous writing about some part of my college hunting story. This original writing had been posted here and also here for the purpose of motivating my juniors in SMA Negeri 2 Surabaya to study outside of their hometown.
Hello my name is Eraulia Nadinda Rachmat. Most of the people called me Dinda, my teachers that has not known me before called me Eraulia, my stage name is Raul, my formal name is Ms. Rachmat.
Currently Insyallah I will pursue my bachelor degree at School of Business and Management, Bandung Institute of Technology. Sounds cool huh? Yep. Am I Smart? Err, what a tough question.
Alhamdulillah I could enter SMADA (SMA Negeri 2 Surabaya) through RSBI (Rintisan Sekolah Bertaraf Internasional) although my name was in the second last page (we got ranked by the entrance exam score). In the First year I was so lazy when it comes to math, chem, phys courses. I don't know whether it was because of the teacher or just my me that really is lazy. So, as long as I can remember I always had to take remedial rest on those subjects. On the other hand I really enjoyed social sciences. I even passed the selection test of OSN (National Science Olympiad) and participated in the intensive team preparation after school. But my parents was not excited at that moment because it's social science, i believe if it was on chemistry they would be more encouraging. On my second year we had to choose between social science class or natural science class. And from what I mentioned to you previously, can you guess what my parents choice is?
Yep, with a mediocre grades on natural science subjects I was placed on natural science class. There is a rumor that my class was classified as a dump class (class whose students had low grades). My laziness over the natural science subjects still continued even getting stronger until I reached my last year.
I realised that my grades were not that great so I looked for many alternatives to get a college. So there are PTN (Government Owned University) and PTS (Private University). Both of the university provide several ways to enter their uni. The most known ways are only-using-highschool-grades way (SNMPTN) and with an entrance exam (SBMPTN). Although my grades graphic was still at a rising rate for a slightly better chance to get accepted at PTN through SNMPTN, I felt like I had to prepare for other alternatives. I started to find many opportunities like scholarships on local uni and abroads, private uni entrance exam and other kind of uni entrance selection tests (once I really wanted to try a school for intelligence agents).
So, I gave it a try to almost every scholarship application openings. For study abroad I filled the application to Ancora-Khazanah Scholarship program, Turkiye Burslari Scholarship Program, Russia Federation Scholarship Program and German University Preparation Program. But I ended up only submitted the Ancora-Khazanah Scholarship Program to study in Malaysia because it's the closest country compared to others. My attempts totally went to zero success.
There are even much more scholarship opportunities for Private Uni. I found several scholarship offerings from President University, Surya University, and Ciputra University. I tried to submit my application to Surya University and Ciputra University. I got accepted with scholarship at Ciputra University on two subjects, Business Information System and Psychopreneur. I also got accepted at Surya University with Tempo scholarship scheme.
I also tried an early university entrance test at Shipbuilding Institute of Polytechnic Surabaya through PMDK Batch 1. I applied for Applied Business Management Major (now Marine Business Management), Automation Engineering and Waste Management Engineering. I got accepted on my first choice, Business Management. All of the acceptance letters I got were far from my final national exam time. Back then, there were 3 students from my class 'the dumped class' who already secured our university even before we are graduated.
